Deepika is the daughter of Prakash Padukone, a former badminton champion. She did her schooling from Sophia High School, Banglore and completed her graduation at Mount Carmel College.
Before stepping into Bollywood, she has modeled in advertising campaigns for Liril Soap, Close-up and Limca. She has also starred in the music video Naam Hai Tera from the pop album Aap Ka Suroor by
Himesh Reshammiya.
Deepika made her debut in a Kannada film, Aishwarya in 2006. She was fortunate to get to act with King Khan in her Bollywood first film Om Shanti Om (2007), which was a huge success. In the same year Deepika won the Filmfare award for Sony Fresh face of the year and best female debutante of the year.
